Getting Through Your Flight

Most of us have to fly somewhere at least one time during the year. Whether it is a business trip, a vacation, or spending the holidays with the family, you have got to go through the trouble of getting to your destination. That means you will have to pack your clothes, make it to the airport on time, and endure one to five hours (or more if you are really unlucky) in an airplane just to get to your final destination. To make it through this ordeal, a little preparation will go a long way.

Before leaving for the airport, you need to make sure that your clothes, toiletries, and whatever else you will take with you is packed. For this you will need quality luggage that is easy to carry. For a trip that will only take a few days, a suitcase with rollers and a handle will hold your clothes and toiletries. A quality leather shoulder bag will allow you to carry a laptop, papers, snacks, and whatever else you will take on the plane with you. For a longer trip, two bags should carry all of your belongings. A large bag for the bulkier items, and a small to medium sized bag for the more delicate items. These bags will be tossed around by careless airline employees, so you want to make sure that you spend a little more to get good luggage that can stand up to abuse.

After packing and getting checked in, you still have to spend up to several hours on the airplane. To keep from losing your mind, you will need some entertainment. A good book is perfect for an airplane. They are usually small enough to carry in your bag or in your hand, and can provide hours of entertainment. While all airports have stores that sell books, you will want to make sure that you take the time to pick out something that you have been wanting to read well before hand to ensure that you have something you can become engrossed in. Music is also a great way to pass time. An I-pod or some other digital music player lets you hold your entire music library on a single system that fits in your pocket. If you plan to sleep on the plane, you can play the music to drown out the noise of the airplane and other passengers. A portable video game system is also a great way to pass the time. The Nintendo DS or the Sony PSP both offer dozens of game titles to choose from. You can play puzzle games, sports games, fighting games, or adventure games. The adventure games are great for passing a lot of time, as they require many hours to get through. To really get your mind off of the flight, you can play the game system while listening to music.

Airplane flights are rarely fun. To get through a flight in one piece, a good set of luggage will see your belongings through to the other end and a book, music player, or portable game system will keep you sane along the way.
